Planting the Learning Seeds with Diah

Planting the Learning Seeds with Diah

Hi I’m Diah. I am a Cardiac Catheter Lab nurse. Together with my husband, an ICU nurse, we shift-work tag team taking care of our 3 year old son. I started The Owen Chronicles a year ago to expand the ways I could engage with my son. I am a huge advocate for child led learning. And although I rarely post a photo of my son on the account, his name is on the title of our account as a constant reminder to keep the focus on him. I love nature walks, reading books and more recently, returning to my love of sketching and painting.

1. My favourite picture book for little learners is...

'Usborne’s Big Book of Bugs'. There are so many interesting facts and we both learn something new every time we read it.

2. Something I’ve learnt on my parenting journey so far...

I don’t have to know everything. I don’t have to know the answer to every question my little one has. It’s just as much fun to find out the answer together and in many instances, I feel humbled and privileged to join his journey.

3. My go to nourishing meal that is super easy and the family loves is...

Chicken hot pot and rice. It’s hearty, packed with vegetables and cooked in the high pressure cooker in under 30 minutes. My son has this with a side of crunchy vegetables which he prefers.

4. An important learning seed I wish I could plant in every child is...

The sense of emotional security and the capacity to give empathy.

5. I’m the best version of myself...

When I have had a little time to myself to pursue my own interests and hobbies.
