Planting the Learning Seeds with Carrie Gallasch

Planting the Learning Seeds with Carrie Gallasch

Hi, I'm Carrie, an early childhood teacher and author in rural South Australia. My passion for children’s literacy began when I first experienced reading aloud to my students. Now with children of my own, I have an excuse to follow them barefoot in the garden and be inspired by the mischief they get up to. I love nothing more than a great story and a great coffee, but not necessarily in that order.

1. My favourite picture book for little learners is …

How can I answer that?! There are many picture books that I love to read over and over again, and I think that's when you know it's a goodie! But there are just too many that fit into this category to choose one...but I will say that there are certainly a few Margaret Wild books in there.

2. Something I’ve learnt on my parenting journey so far…

It's only for a time. The hard stuff as well as the beautiful moments, so make the most of it and don't stress.

3. My go to nourishing meal that is super easy and the family loves …

Veggie filled fried rice. Uses up all the odd bits from the fridge too!

4. An important learning seed I wish I could plant in every child …

Curiosity and imagination and PLAY! A child who can play can never get bored. But what I really should say is, read, read, read to your child. Your love of books will encourage your child to love books too. A print rich environment is crucial.

5. I’m the best version of myself …

When I feel I have a sense of purpose and contribution to the world around me. That sounds big, but true. And red wine (can I say that?).

You can find Carrie's amazing books at any good book store.
