1. My favourite picture book for little learners is …
Ohhh, there are so many, I really couldn't choose! We are big advocates of books in our home and have read to Prim every night before bed since she was a few months old. From plain picture books, numbers, alphabet, emotions, every book is worth reading with your child! Prim is almost 4 now and books that encourage exploration of the world, feelings and making friends are some of our current favourites.
2. Something I’ve learnt on my parenting journey so far…
Never take your eyes off a toddler with a permanent marker, seriously!!
Probably the most important thing I have learnt is how quickly and easily our children pick up on our vibes, feelings, actions and words. Children can only be what they see which is why it's so important for adults to lead by example, and if we make mistakes or have a bad day, to cease that opportunity to teach them all feelings are valid, but it's how we act on those feelings that may or may not be acceptable. We need to find ways to express ourselves that are.
3. My go to nourishing meal that is super easy and the family loves …
Definitely my home made Spaghetti Bolognese! It's always a plate cleaner... I use pork & beef mince and throw in ALL the tiny chopped up veggies I can find in the fridge. I add flavoured stock and lots of garlic. Once the meat/veg/sauce is cooked I use my hand blitzer to mince everything together - no one would ever know it had so many veggies and so much goodness inside! Serve with pasta and cheese, bon appétit!
4. An important learning seed I wish I could plant in every child …
A seed of self love, compassion for themselves, acceptance of who they truly are and not pretending to be someone they are not to impress others. It's taken me many years to get here, but since I've learnt to love myself as I am, I've never been happier and more at peace, in so many ways. I always wonder how things may have been different if only I'd been more accepting of myself as a young adult.
5. I’m the best version of myself …
When I make sure I nourish myself, just as I notice my children are their best selves when their needs are met. As a new parent it takes a while to learn to recognise when we're feeling low or burnt out and take care of ourselves, because only you know what you need and you deserve to take care of yourself like you do your children. For me eating well plays a big part, but it can also be as simple as finding time in my day to create something, get out in my garden or tick something off my to do list; but of course some very rare solo-mama time out is always nice too!
